Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43 Executive Board Resolution in Support of Governor Granholm's 2007 & 2008 Budget Recommendation and Overall Economic Program WHEREAS, Governor Jennifer Granholm's 2007 & 2008 budget proposals contain a mix of cuts, reforms and revenue, WHEREAS, Granholm's budget cuts spending, but invests in order to grow the economy, WHEREAS, the Teamsters believe the proposed new tax structure will help fix the state's broken tax system, WHEREAS, the budget proposal protects funding for education, healthcare, public safety, and labors' workforce development and protection, WHEREAS, the Governor's has included an aggressive economic stimulus package to further diversity our economy, create good jobs and give those most impacted by the changes in Michigan's economy access to the tools to land new jobs, WHEREAS, the Teamsters believe the Governor's economic plan is the right plan for Michigan because it invests in our members to help them succeed in the new economy, WHEREAS, the Governor has already cut more from state government spending than any governor before her - nearly $3 billion to solve $4 billion in budget deficits over four years, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43 Executive Board supports Governor Jennifer Granholm's 2007 and 2008 Budget Recommendations and overall economic plan. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43 will urge all of the locals of the Teamsters Union to educate their membership and family members about the state's debilitating fiscal crisis and the proposed solution Governor Granholm has put forward. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43 celebrates the leadership of Governor Granholm and pledges that the Teamsters Union, its officers, and members will take action to support her economic proposal to create new jobs and diversify the economy. |
